Healthy Mouth Maintenance
Your mouth is connected to your overall health and well-being. If you maintain a healthy mouth, you will help to maintain a healthy body. Poor oral health has been connected to many health conditions beyond gun disease including heart disease, diabetes and hypertension. In order to maintain a healthy mouth there are some simple steps that you should do which will help you to maintain your good wellbeing.
Step #1
Visit your dentist office regularly. You should visit your dentist at least once every year for a thorough and comprehensive oral examination. Your dentist will do x-rays, examine your mouth for cavities and look for any irregularities in your gums. Twice a year, you should visit your dental hygienist for a professional cleaning to keep you gums and teeth health and plaque free.
Step #2
Brush your teeth at least two times a day and after your midday meal. You should brush for at least three minutes each time, making sure you cover the surface of each tooth along with your tongue. Floss at least once each day in the evening to assure that you do not have any food deposits left between your teeth.
Step #3
Use fluoride toothpaste, especially if you live in an area where fluoride is not added to your water. Fluoride keeps your teeth strong and prevents tooth decay. The brand does not really matter. Check the label of the toothpaste to make sure it has an adequate amount of fluoride in the formula.
Step #4
Eat a healthy balanced diet filled with fresh fruits and vegetables. Avoid candy with which will help to produce bacteria. Avoid highly acidic foods which will thin down and destroy tooth enamel. Stay away from carbonated and caramel colored drinks as they both stain your teeth and break down your enamel.
Step #5
Pay attention to your mouth. Check for unusual occurrences which include swelling, uncomfortable gums, chipped teeth or other potential problems. If you experience anything unusual that doesn’t disappear after seven days, you need to visit your dentist.
Step #6
Stop the tobacco habit. If you smoke or use chewing tobacco, you are positioning yourself for problems including gum disease and cancer. Just stop! Tobacco is one of those things that you can control which will increase the health of your mouth as soon as you eliminate it from your daily habits.
Maintaining oral health is easy to do by following these simple steps. Keeping your mouth healthy will make you more attractive because you will have fresh breath and a nice clean smile. Visit your dentist and dental hygienist regularly, brush daily and eat healthy. So, go ahead, flash that beautiful white smile. After all, you are healthy on the inside and out.
